PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Peninsula Building 1B is the first of four all-affordable residential buildings planned for the site of the former Spofford Juvenile Detention Center in Hunts Point. The 14-story, all-affordable apartment building will house a community theater and studio spaces for local artists, as well as ground-floor retail. Residents will enjoy a variety of amenities such as a fitness center, children’s playroom, landscaped terrace, and a lounge. The design employs many strategies to provide residents with healthy living spaces. Among these are the use of low VOC materials, an individual ventilation system for each apartment, heating, and cooling units that can be controlled in each room, and generous windows providing views as well as lots of daylight. In addition, the building will feature access to the new courtyard, providing ample space for outdoor recreation.
